Overview

The Ontario Ministry of Transportation (MTO) has retained McIntosh Perry Consulting Engineers Ltd. and LEA Consulting Ltd. Joint Venture (MP-LEA Joint Venture) to carry out Detail Design and Class Environmental Assessment (Class EA) for the intersection improvements at Highway 62 and Ridge/Moira Road (County Road 8) in West Huntingdon Station in the Municipality of Centre Hastings.

The Preliminary Design and Class EA Study was undertaken starting in 2012. The study followed the approved planning process for a Group ‘B’ project under the MTO Class Environmental Assessment for Provincial Transportation Facilities (2000). Two Public Information Centre meetings were held during the Preliminary Design (July 2013 and 2014). A Transportation Environmental Study Report (TESR) was prepared in 2014 during preliminary design and was made available for a 30-day comment period. The TESR evaluated a number of design alternatives and selected a preferred design alternative (Recommended Plan) for long term improvements at the intersection. The Recommended Plan included constructing a modern roundabout at the Highway 62 and Moira/Ridge Road intersection.

The project scope of work includes, but is not limited to:

  • Intersection improvements including construction of a roundabout at the Highway 62 and Ridge/Moira Road intersection;
  • Minor alignment modifications to Highway 62 and Ridge/Moira Road;
  • Improvements to intersection sight distances; and
  • Installation of new concrete islands with curb and gutter on roundabout approaches and modification of entrance connections.
